Many people questioned the hiring of Deion Sanders two years ago, but two seasons in, many now consider the hiring a success, especially the university, which recently signed the head coach to a five-year extension.
Recent head coaching rankings suggest the public is also entirely behind the Colorado head coach. USA TODAY Sports’ latest Big 12 head coach rankings have Sanders as the No. 5 coach in the conference.
CBS Sports is the next outlet to release its post-spring head coach rankings, focusing on the 68 Power Four head coaches.
While Sanders does not make the top 25, he falls just outside the top 30, coming in at No. 33 right behind Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule. Sanders had the second-largest jump of any head coach, moving up 28 spots after coming in at No. 61.
Only one coach climbed higher than the 28 spots Coach Prime leaped this season, and this jump shouldn’t come as a surprise. While the on-field results didn’t match the off-field hype in 2023, Sanders’ Colorado team improved to 9-4 and was in the hunt for a conference title until the end of the season. Oh, and Travis Hunter won the Heisman. Now, we sit back and see how things will go with Hunter and Shedeur Sanders off to the NFL. I won’t be surprised by any outcome, honestly.
