Multiple outlets reported earlier this week that the College Football Playoff has voted unanimously to change its seeding model ahead of the 2025 college football season.
Rather than give the top-four ranked conference champions a first-round bye, as the CFP’s rules required in 2024, the seeding will instead be decided by a straight ranking option.
In other words, instead of the Texas Longhorns beginning their 2024 CFP journey in the opening round in which Texas beat Clemson, Texas would have had a first-round bye as the bracket’s No. 3 last season under the new, recently approved CFP seeding model’s rules.
