The top running back from Michigan has officially spurned the Spartans to become a Kansas Jayhawk.
Four-star running back Kory Amachree of Haslett, Mich. officially announced his commitment to Kansas on Friday afternoon from his high school that is located less than 15 minutes away from Spartan Stadium. Amachree was a priority running back target for the Spartans but ultimately elected to commit elsewhere.
Amachree was also considering Indiana, Pitt, Duke and Harvard as his four other finalists.
Earlier this week, it became known via 247Sports crystal ball predictions that Kansas was the new leader in the clubhouse Amachree. He was originally projected to land at Michigan State late last week, but that flipped to Kansas just a few days later — with his official commitment to the Jayhawks coming on Friday.
Amachree is as a four-star prospect on the 247Sports’ composite and has an 89.63 rating. He is the No. 24 running back and No. 6 player from Michigan in the 2026 class. He is listed as the No. 351 prospect in the class.
Michigan State is now going to have to change its focus to another running backs in the 2026 class. The good news for the Spartans is that has already begun with the fellow four-star running back Damon Ferguson announcing on Friday he’ll be taking an official visit to Michigan State next month. Expect Michigan State to make a strong push for Ferguson now that Amachree is off the table.
