Safety play in college football is underrated in today’s landscape, especially in the SEC, where versatility now includes hybrid play at linebacker or nickel based on each athlete’s speed, size, and athleticism. In the 2026 cycle, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko has a long history of developing safeties, going back to his successful defensive coordinator career with several Power Four programs, including the Aggies.
In the 2026 class, Texas A&M has yet to land a safety commit, but is now a finalist for one of the program’s longtime recruiting targets, Tylan Wilson. Wilson released his Top 4 program list this week, placing the Aggies, Clemson, Arkansas, and Ole Miss as the final schools he’ll consider moving forward. On the field, Wilson is one of the hardest hitters in the class, while possessing the speed to cover the third level of the field.
At 6’3″ and 175 pounds, Wilson is a perfect fit in Mike Elko’s defense. However, the Aggies are trailing the Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney heading into the summer, when Swinney will take an official visit on May 30. So far, Texas A&M has yet to set up an OV with Wilson, but there is still time to do so.
According to 247Sports, Tylan Wilson is currently positioned as the 220th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 17th-ranked safety prospect, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Mississippi.
