Fans want to see Michigan Football vs Notre Dame square off before 2033

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NCAA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Michigan Wolverines fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Earlier this week, we surveyed fans asking if they believe Michigan and Notre Dame should play again before they’re currently scheduled to — all the way in 2033. The results are in, and fans want to see the rivalry back sooner than the next decade.

69% of those surveyed hope Michigan and Notre Dame play before 2033.

The last time these two teams played was back in 2019, a 45-14 Michigan win over the Fighting Irish. Michigan leads the all-time series, which dates back to 1887, 25-17-1. With the College Football Playoff expanding to eight teams and perhaps to 12 or 16 in the near future, a non-conference loss for either program isn’t nearly as fatal as it once would be, which should incentivize top-tier programs from squaring off against one another more often.

While Michigan’s rivalry against Notre Dame isn’t as intense as the rivalries of Ohio State and Michigan State, it’s still a matchup that receives national intrigue and is good for college football.
