Bear Alexander looking for NFL stock bump with Ducks

In today’s day and age, college football players transfer for a variety of different reasons. Some are looking for more playing time, while others just want to be closer to home.

However, some are seeking an opportunity to revitalize a career that may be somewhat stagnant. That’s the case for Oregon defensive tackle Bear Alexander. At 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, Alexander was a five-star recruit and one of the top defensive tackles in the country, and it was no surprise he committed to Georgia.

After a season in Athens, Alexander moved on to USC where he had a decent sophomore year with 12 starts and 48 tackles. His junior year, last year, was a disaster as he played in just three games. Alexander clashed with the Trojan coaching staff and left.

Now it seems as if he has found a home at Oregon and coach Dan Lanning. According to USA TODAY writer Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, the Oregon defender has a chance to reestablish himself as one of the better players in the country and improve his NFL draft stock.

“A former five-star recruit who began his career at Georgia, Alexander still finds his college career defined by potential more so than production,” he said. “The 6-3, 315-pounder was one of the few bright spots for a maligned USC defense in 2023, as he generated consistent pressure seldom seen for a player of his build on the interior. But Alexander decided last season to redshirt after just three games amid a clash with the coaching staff over playing time. Now at Oregon, he’ll be looking to take the sizable step from generating a smattering of splash plays to becoming a full-time force.”

Lanning has hit many home runs where the transfer portal is concerned and he hopes Alexander is a grand slam.
