Apologies to the Bears of Conway, who have been last in each of our sets of rankings this offseason. The FCS squad should not pose Mizzou any challenge in this Thursday-night opener.
11: UMass
A new coaching staff and a ton of turnover may work in UMass’ favor in the long run, but the soon-to-be Mid-American Conference — yes, you read that right; the formerly independent Minutemen are joining the MAC this summer — program is likely to be one of the worst teams in the FBS this year.
10: Mississippi State
Yes, we’re sticking the Bulldogs behind the Tigers’ other non-Power-conference opponent, Louisiana. While Mississippi State gets Blake Shapen back under center and added a promising running back in South Alabama’s Fluff Bothwell, the 2025 season still shapes up to be a struggle for Jeff Lebby in his second season in Starkville.
The defense could be among the worst at the Power-conference level, and it’s tough to see a major improvement from a 2-10 season last year.
9: Louisiana
The Ragin’ Cajuns are somewhat of an unknown entity at this point after a massive portal exodus following a Sun Belt title game loss last season, but 10 wins in 2024 — all in the regular season — is a solid base for head coach Michael Desormeaux to build on.
