The Georgia Bulldogs have failed at landing elite five-star tight end recruit Mark Bowman. Bowman, who is the No. 1 ranked tight end in the country, committed to the USC Trojans in a surprising decision on Friday, May 30. Bowman chose USC over Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss.
Bowman is a five-star recruit from the class of 2026. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end plays high school football for Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He reclassified from 2027 to 2026 to play college football one year sooner. According to 247Sports, Bowman has 560 yards and 12 touchdowns on 43 receptions over the last two years.
With USC, he stays close to his hometown. He’s urging other top recruits from California to commit to USC.
“Come join the family. We are taking over the city! All of the talent that’s here, we gotta bring it to USC,” said Bowman after his commitment, according to Hayes Fawcett.
Bowman’s official visit to Georgia is scheduled for June 13, so Bowman did not visit Georgia before his commitment decision. He was projected to commit to Georgia on May 15 by Jake Reuse of On3 and other experts had him committing to Texas. 247Sports has compared him to Brock Bowers, which illustrates his immense potential.
Unfortunately, Georgia misses out on another five-star recruit. On May 13, five-star offensive lineman Jackson Cantwell surprisingly committed to the Miami Hurricanes over the Georgia Bulldogs.
According to 247Sports, USC has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, while Georgia has the No. 11 recruiting class. Georgia did land four-star tight end Lincoln Keyes, along with four-star wide receivers Vance Spafford, Brady Marchese and Ryan Mosley.
Bowman is the No. 1 tight end and No. 16 recruit in the nation for the class of 2026. He’s the No. 4 tight end in California.
