The Big 12 and WWE are expanding their partnership this fall, per sources

The Big 12 Conference and WWE are reportedly expanding their partnership this fall.

According to Chris Vannini, senior writer at The Athletic, WWE is bringing SmackDown to Big 12 markets the night before football games. This includes an event in Ireland before the Week 0 game between Kansas State and Iowa State. WWE’s blue brand will also come to Orlando the night before UCF takes on North Carolina on Sept. 20.

The Big 12 and WWE launched a partnership in November 2023. As part of the agreement, Big 12 football champions — Texas in 2023 and Arizona State in 2024 — received custom WWE title belts during postgame celebrations. The collaboration also introduced a co-branded Big 12 Championship merchandise line.

If the report is accurate, WWE could recapture the energy of WCW’s Monday Nitro by bringing events to college towns. Like Nitro in the late ’90s, WWE can tap into the passion of student-heavy crowds with live shows timed around big college football games and rivalry weeks.
