Georgia football named as leader for five-star tight end recruit

The nation’s No. 3 tight end Kaiden Prothro took an official visit to the University of Georgia this weekend. Prothro, who is the No. 3 recruit in Georgia, is from Bowdon, Georgia, plays high school football for Bowdon High School.

Prothro is ranked as a five-star recruit. He’s the No. 26 recruit in the nation and is a key in-state target for coach Kirby Smart and Georgia.

Georgia missed out on No. 1 tight end Mark Bowman, so Kaiden Prothro is an even bigger priority right now. Georgia already has a commitment from four-star tight end prospect Lincoln Keyes.

Prothro is a versatile player that, despite being listed as a tight end, could excel in various roles in college. Some teams envision him as a jumbo X receiver, while others see him as a flex tight end with the potential to develop into an in-line weapon. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound pass catcher has excellent length, but needs to add weight to play tight end in the SEC.

“I think Georgia is the one to beat going in to official visits,” said On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong. The five-star also has official visits lined up with Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Texas over the next month.

Georgia has been known for their recruitment and the development if tight ends. Georgia had a streak of tight ends picked in six straight NFL drafts that unfortunately ended during this past NFL draft. Georgia’s most notable tight end development story is Las Vegas Raiders star Brock Bowers.

Tight end coach Todd Hartley has been around the program since 2019 and has a reputation for being a top recruiter in the country. He regularly brings in a top five tight end since he was hired.
