Going into the 2025 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will examine each player listed on the Penn State roster. Over the preseason, each profile will cover the player’s background, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.
Offensive lineman Malachi Goodman was the top recruit in Penn State’s 2025 class, and for good reason. He already has the ideal size and frame of a power conference offensive tackle and plays with a great balance of strength and athleticism. Goodman arrives as an almost finished product but can continue to refine his technique as he learns behind veteran starters. Here’s a look at Goodman as he enters his first season in the blue and white.

Goodman was considered one of the top offensive tackles in the class and ranked among the best players in New Jersey. He took visits to Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, USC and Illinois before landing on the Nittany Lions.
Depth Chart Overview
Penn State returns four of five starters from last season and has stacked several good recruiting classes at the position, so finding playing time as a true freshman will be tough for Goodman. Still, if there’s a freshman who can make an impact this season, it’s him. In all likelihood, Goodman will redshirt his first season before pushing for a starting role in 2026 and beyond.
