Michigan football loves bringing in legacy prospects, and should the Wolverines land this one, it could be the biggest ever in Ann Arbor — certainly in cache, but not necessarily star power.
Of course, in recent memory, getting five-star cornerback Will Johnson, son of former standout defensive back Deon Johnson, was about as big as it gets. But when it comes to names, there are only, maybe, three former players who wore the winged helmet that would make fans particularly excited just by the name on th back of the jersey.
And on Wednesday, Michigan offered the son of one of those Wolverines legends.
Michigan offers Charles Woodson Jr.
There are few former Wolverines as beloved as Charles Woodson. The first primarily defensive player to ever win a Heisman Trophy, Woodson is maize and blue through and through, constantly repping his alma mater. His son, Charles Woodson Jr., is a 2027 four-star recruit out of Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona, coming in at No. 243 according to 247Sports.
His recruitment has been burgeoning as of late, and on Wednesday, he was finally able to say he had earned an offer from Michigan.
Recruitment on the uptick
Woodson started reporting offers back in January, first with Delaware calling, with Syracuse offering on the same day. Later in the month, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss offered, but then it was a bit of a dry spell with not much more happening over the winter. But since those, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Iowa State, Florida State, and now Michigan, have all offered.
It’s unclear whether the junior Woodson has the same affinity for Michigan as his father or if he will want to follow his own path. One thing is for sure, however: with his father being an outspoken ambassador for the Wolverines, it seems likely that the maize and blue are awfully high up his list.
