The Oklahoma Sooners just wrapped the first of two major recruiting weekends, hosting a number of prospects for official visits in Norman. The weekend has already paid dividends with a commitment from three-star defensive end Matthew Nelson. And Oklahoma might be closing in on another pledge.
Oklahoma hosted Rogers, Ar. linebacker Braxton Lindsey appears to have gained an edge in his recruitment. Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop.com and On3 issued a recruiting prediction late Sunday evening, favoring the Sooners. Lindsey is considered a four-star prospect by ESPN and in the 247Sports Composite. He holds 24 offers, including 18 from Power Four programs.
Back on May 26, Lindsey narrowed his recruitment to four programs: Oklahoma, Miami, Arkansas, and Missouri.
He’s an athletic two-way player. On defense, he primarily plays as a stand-up edge rusher. He has a great first step off of the line of scrimmage and gets into the backfield in a hurry. He has a nice set of pass-rush moves and wins with quickness and agility. He’s willing to get physical with the offensive line in the run game. Lindsey displays a fantastic motor and never gives up on a play.
Lindsey already has good size heading into his junior season at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds. Though he’ll have to make the transition to playing more off-ball linebacker, he’s got the athleticism and the tools to be dynamic at linebacker or even at cheetah in Brent Venables’ defense.
