Texas A&M lands commitment from one of nation’s top kickers

Texas A&M football’s special teams coordinator Patrick Dougherty landed one of the nation’s top specialists on Monday morning, as kicker Asher Murray announced his commitment to the Aggies.

The Shreveport, Louisiana, native worked his way into becoming one of the most elite kickers in the 2026 class, going 44 of 47 on PATs and 12 of 14 on field goals at CE Byrd last season. His efforts, including his longest field goal of 56 yards, earned his way on the Max Preps junior All-American first-team and first-team LSWA All-State team.

Here is the official announcement via Murray’s X account from this morning:

Murray received offers from Maryland and Memphis, but eventually made his decision to commit to the Texas A&M football program. His natural talent and gifted abilities as a kicker do not fall far from the family tree, as both of his older brothers are also kickers.

The position is one of the most underrated and overlooked positions in the game today. For Texas A&M, especially in a league as competitive as the Southeastern Conference, it is crucial to have a talented kicking specialist who can put points on the board when called upon at any point during the game. An edge like that can be the deciding factor in a contest.

With the Aggies landing Murray’s commitment, the depth within Dougherty’s specialist room just increased in a much-needed position moving forward, but it also adds to an already impressive 2026 recruiting class for Texas A&M.

Murray’s announcement marks the 13th commitment of the 2026 class and continues to help rocket the Aggies up the recruiting rankings, according to the 247 Sports official recruiting tracker. The program ranks No. 7 overall and in the site’s composite rankings.
