Illinois football added some speed on Tuesday, earning a commitment from its second running back in its Class of 2026.
Three-star recruit Nelsyn Wheeler of Nebraska announced his commitment to the Illini on social media after a visit to the Champaign campus.
The 5-foot-9, 205-pounder from Millard South in Omaha chose Illinois over Cincinnati, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Wheeler, who de-committed from Northern Illinois in April, is the 18th commit in the Illini class and second running back after Florida’s Javari Barnett.
“I set up the official because I love everything that Illinois is doing,” Wheeler told Illini Inquirer. “They have a great o-line and a great running back room. And anytime you can return 16 players from what was a great team the previous season, it speaks volumes on the culture they have.”
