AHSAA Super 7 Alabama high school football championships set through 2028
AHSAA Super 7 Alabama high school football championships sites are set through 2028, alternating between Birmingham and Mobile. Birmingham will host 2025.
After two seasons, Lance Tucker has resigned as the head football coach at Demopolis. Tucker confirmed the news to The Tuscaloosa News on Wednesday morning.
Tucker is the son of Waldon Tucker, who still remains as one of the winningest coaches in AHSAA history. Lance played quarterback for his father at Fayette County High School and still ranks among the AHSAA’s all-time leaders in passes attempted (3rd, 1,202) and passes completions (12th, 586). He then played quarterback at the University of Alabama under coaches Gene Stallings and Mike DuBose.
“It was just time,” Lance told The Tuscaloosa News. “I have said before, growing up in a football family with my mom and dad leading the charge, you learn a lot, you see a lot. One of the things you learn is you learn when it’s time. I just felt like it was time.”
Lance arrived in Demopolis ahead of the 2023 season after four years coaching at Barlett (Tennessee). He went 17-7 across his two seasons with Demopolis along with two region championships and two playoff appearances. Tucker owns a 126-62 coaching record across his 16 seasons as head coach. He has prior coaching stops at his alma mater, Fayette County (2011-2018), along with Sipsey Valley (2010).
As far as the future, Tucker said he does not know what lies ahead, but he hopes to still remain on the sideline.
