Mason James, who had a Notre Dame offer, picks the Washington Huskies

There have been a few misses for Notre Dame football in the 2026 recruiting cycle, and another one happened on Thursday.

Mason James, a 5-foot, 11-inch and 175-pound wide receiver who Notre Dame offered in February, decided that the Washington Huskies is who he will start his collegiate career with. While the Irish did offer him, it didn’t seem to move the needle much, as he never set an official visit to see South Bend.

The Huskies are getting one of the nation’s best receiver prospects, as the 247Sports Composite Rankings has James as the No. 230 overall prospect, No. 36 at his position. Fortunately for Notre Dame, they already have two similar committed players in Dylan Faison and Bubba Frazier, all three of them most likely playing the slot.

Now, the Irish await the decision of Kaydon Finley, who will commit on July 4th, Brayden Robinson who has a July 20th commitment date and Devin Fitzgerald who will verbal on July 5th.
