Is LSU back in the mix after Louisiana four-star decommits from Auburn

Could LSU be in play for a recent decommitted in-state linebacker?

Four-star prospect JaMichael Garrett went back on his pledge to play for Auburn, according to a report from On3. He will now reconsider the 33 schools that made him an offer.

The six-foot-two, 205-pounder committed to Auburn last July. 247Sports ranks Garrett as the No. 8 linebacker in the 2026 class while On3 slots him at No. 54. The Central, LA native doesn’t have an official visit scheduled to Baton Rouge, likely signaling that LSU isn’t interested in joining the race for his commitment.

The Tigers are pushing heavily for other backyard recruits, including the state’s top prospect in Lamar Brown, as well as quarterback Bowe Bentley. They missed on No. 3 Blaine Bradford, who chose Ohio State but got defensive lineman Richard Anderson.

LSU holds commitments from five of the state’s top 10 players as well as two top prospects out of Mississippi in five-star Tristen Keys and four-star Emanuel Tucker. Its 2026 class ranks first in the SEC and second nationally as seven of its 10 commitments hail from Louisiana.
