The Tigers fell 15 spots in the 2026 recruiting rankings after losing Garrett this week. Where do they turn now?
The outlook for the 2026 Auburn football recruiting class did not have the best week. On Thursday, four-star linebacker recruit JaMichael Garrett decommitted from the Tigers per a report from Hayes Fawcett of On3. He originally committed to the Tigers on July 27 of last year. He made an official visit to Auburn on May 30 but has made other visits to Ole Miss and Miami since that date. He has an upcoming visit to Texas A&M on June 20.
Auburn has now dropped to No. 52 overall in the 247Sports 2026 recruiting rankings with seven commitments. The Tigers received more bad news on Saturday morning with four-star in-state wide receiver Marquez Daniel choosing Florida over Auburn. While he had not committed to the Tigers, Daniel choosing the Gators continues a tough stretch of recruiting for Hugh Freeze and staff for 2026.
The decommitment from Garrett does not mean Auburn is out on his recruitment, but work needs to be done. Linebacker is one of the more inexperienced positions on the current roster and Auburn will need to add to that group for the future. Garrett is the No. 8 linebacker in the 2026 class, the No. 8 player in Louisiana. Auburn does still hold commitment from four-star linebacker, Shadarius Toodle, from Mobile.
Auburn has a chance over the weekend to improve their ranking though. Per On3, the Tigers have three five-star visitors this weekend with Cederian Morgan (wide receiver), Bralan Womack (safety), and Ezavier Crowell (running back). They also will receive a visit from four-star quarterback Landon Duckworth. The Jackson High School quarterback named Auburn as a finalist this week.
