The Clemson Tigers’ 2025 college football season opener against LSU is 77 days away.
While most of the hype surrounding the 2025 roster is naturally on the players Clemson is set to return — quarterback Cade Klubnik, receivers Antonio Williams, Bryant Wesco, T.J. Moore, and defensive linemen T.J. Parker and Peter Woods — there’s always the possibility of a few freshman stepping up and making a name for themselves.
Just last season, the Tigers got big seasons from five-star talent like Wesco and Moore to win 10 games and the school’s ninth ACC championship under Dabo Swinney.
On Friday, CBS Sports took a look at the top freshmen poised to make an impact for their respective teams in the 2025 season. Not surprisingly, Michigan quarterback and NIL darling Bryce Underwood topped the list at No. 1.
Clemson had two players from its 2025 recruiting class appear on the list, though, including one at No. 3 overall: four-star running back Gideon Davidson.
CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer said of Davidson:
“No blue-chip running back from the 2025 class enters a better situation for early playing time than Davidson. Behind just 295 yards in 2024, Jay Haynes was set to return as the Tigers’ leading rusher, but he tore his ACL in December. Everyone else in the room has even less experience or — in the case of Adam Randall — is new to the position after making the switch from wide receiver. That’s what makes Davidson so intriguing.”
Davidson (Lynchburg, Va.) was rated the No. 4 running back and the No. 90 player overall in On3’s class of 2025 recruiting rankings. Swinney raved about Davidson all throughout the spring leading up to the Tigers’ annual Orange & White Game.
