Alabama football heads into the 2025 season with plenty of talent, depth and experience in the secondary unit.
At safety, the Crimson Tide return Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb from a year ago. A four-star recruit in the class of 2023, Hubbard played in 10 games during his sophomore season and had three interceptions, two pass breakups and a forced fumble a year ago.
Sabb was a huge transfer portal addition from Michigan after the 2023 season and looked well on his way to a strong follow-up as a sophomore before a season-ending injury in Alabama’s loss to Tennessee. He had two interceptions in the Tide’s season-opening 62-0 romp of Western Kentucky and four pass breakups over the next six games.
On Monday, Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked the top 10 secondaries entering the 2025 season. Alabama’s unit was ranked No. 2 behind the Texas Longhorns.
PFF’s Max Chadwick believes Alabama may have the best safety tandem in all of college football:
“Between Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb, the Crimson Tide may have the best safety duo in college football. Hubbard is my No. 6 safety in America and ranked sixth at the position in college football in both PFF overall grade (89.2) and PFF coverage grade (89.7) this past season. His 21.3 passer rating when targeted was the fifth-best mark among FBS safeties, too. Sabb missed the final six games of 2024 with an injury but he was my No. 9 safety entering last year. While at Michigan in 2023, the then-sophomore was one of six Power Five safeties who earned 80-plus grades both in coverage and as a run-defender.
Both of Alabama’s starting outside cornerbacks, high school teammates Zabien Brown and Domani Jackson of Mater Dei HS in California, also return after strong seasons in 2024. Both five-star recruits, Brown was a true freshman who made three interceptions in seven games — including the one…
