Tennessee football secured its first commitment in the 2027 class, and it didn’t have to look far.
West linebacker JP Peace announced his commitment to the Vols on social media on June 16. Peace is the grandson of former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer and son of Robert Peace who was a linebacker for the Vols from 2000-03.
“I mean, it’s really going to be, like, an unreal experience knowing that I’m following in my dad’s footsteps a little bit in that way,” Peace told GoVols247. “I’m excited to do that.”
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound sophomore doesn’t have an official rating from 247Sports but received 10 offers, which include Florida State, UAB, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt.
“I talked to Coach (Josh) Heupel first, and that was really cool,” Peace said. “Then, about five minutes later, I talked to (linebackers) Coach (William) Inge. Right when I told (Heupel), he got up and started clapping. He gave me a hug. He said, ‘Vol Nation’s going to be super excited. It’s a great day for Tennessee.’ It was really cool.”
Peace played on a West team that made a run to the TSSAA Class 5A state quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Sevier County. West finished 9-4.
Going into the game against Sevier County, Peace ranked sixth on the team with 51.5 tackles. He also recorded 4.5 sacks, an interception, fumble recovery, a forced fumble.
