The Texas Tech football team picked up a commitment on Sunday, June 15, from an all-state running back who is projected to play linebacker in college.
Kaegan Ash from Mount Enterprise, an East Texas town of about 500, announced for the Red Raiders on social media. He was in Lubbock for a campus visit during the weekend.
Ash, listed by his school at 6-foot and 205 pounds, was a Class 2A first-team all-state honoree this past season at fullback by the Texas Sports Writers Association. He rushed 244 times for 1,960 yards and 32 touchdowns, caught a 67-yard TD pass and racked up 30 two-point conversions. He missed four games with an injury.
He was credited with 49 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss and 4 1/2 sacks. He also recovered two fumbles and had a 72-yard interception return.
Mount Enterprise finished 9-4, losing to Bremond in a Class 2A Division II regional semifinal.
According to recruiting services, 14 programs have offered Ash a scholarship, including Washington State, Army, Navy, Air Force and four Ivy League schools. In state, he’s attracted scholarship offers from Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Texas-El Paso and Texas-San Antonio.
Mount Enterprise also is the hometown of New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller, who was a third-round draft pick out of TCU after he rushed for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2022.
