ATHENS — Let the countdown to another high school football season begin.
Welcome to the headquarters for all things northeast Georgia football, a collection of the Athens Banner-Herald’s coverage for the 2025 season. Here, you’ll find links to all the stories from the 12-week regular season and playoffs in the Athens area, including player highlights, weekly game content and features.
Whether you root for the Clarke Central Gladiators or the Cedar Shoals Jaguars, maybe the Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines or the Athens Academy Spartans, the North Oconee Titans or the Oconee County Warriors, or even the Jefferson Dragons, it’s going to be a good fall.
🏈 Week 1
We’ll see you Aug. 14 for the Classic City Championship between Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals and Aug. 15 for the Hog Mountain Bowl between North Oconee and Oconee County.
📆 Schedules
Football can begin practices Monday, July 28. The regular season begins Friday, Aug. 15 and will run until Saturday, Nov. 1 when playoff qualifiers are determined.
The first round of playoffs is tentatively set for Nov. 14, with second round Nov. 21, quarterfinals Nov. 28, semifinals Dec. 5 and the finals at Mercedes Benz Stadium Dec. 15-17.
🏆 2024 state playoff recap
The 2024 season saw three teams make it to the Benz for GHSA state title games. North Oconee defeated Marist to win its first-ever championship ring, while Prince Avenue Christian’s back-to-back streak was ended by Hebron Christian and Jefferson was iced out by Calhoun.
