Wisconsin recruiting target Zachary Washington Michigan State commit

Former Wisconsin high-profile class of 2026 wide receiver target Zachary Washington committed to Michigan State on Monday.

Washington chose the Spartans over Wisconsin, West Virginia and others. His commitment decision follows the Badgers’ recent addition of former Ole Miss commit Zion Legree. With three-star wideout Tayshon Bardo already committed and four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit currently in Madison for an unofficial visit, the position is quickly becoming a strength of the Badgers’ class.

While Washington was one of the program’s top targets throughout the cycle, including from its May 30 official visit weekend, the timing of his commitment to Michigan State is unlikely to be a coincidence.

247Sports lists the Wheaton, Illinois, native as a three-star prospect. He’s specifically ranked as the No. 896 player in the class of 2026, the No. 139 wide receiver and the No. 21 recruit from his home state. Wisconsin (May 30), Michigan State (June 6) and West Virginia (June 13) were the three programs to land official visits.

Washington joins a Michigan State class that ranks No. 26 in the nation and No. 10 in the Big Ten with 17 players committed. The group narrowly edges Wisconsin’s class, which currently ranks No. 35 nationally and No. 11 in the Big Ten with 13 commitments.

As mentioned, the Badgers’ focus is on Petit, as well as its other top uncommitted targets, including running back Amari Latimer, OT Kamari Blair and athlete Jackson Ford. The program needs commitments from several of those players if it is to surpass Michigan State in the conference rankings and approach the nation’s top 25.
