As Iowa football constantly searches for the next great name to don the black and gold, the Hawkeyes extended an offer to three-star defensive lineman Jonathan Rulo on Sunday, joining a group of other programs seeking his talents on the gridiron.
Rulo, a native of Belleville, Illinois, is listed as a three-star prospect. 247Sports ranks Rulo as the No. 37 player in the state of Illinois and as the 146th-ranked defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound lineman had an impressive 2024 season. According to MaxPreps, Rulo registered 59 tackles (31 assisted, 28 solo), 20 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one safety in 10 games played for Belleville East High School.
In addition to his defensive stats, Rulo scored one touchdown on two carries for five yards on offense this past year.
Along with Iowa, Rulo has also received offers from Kansas State, Cincinnati, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Wyoming, Lindenwood, and Missouri State. Among those offers, he has already taken an official visit to Cincinnati on June 13 and will visit Kansas State on June 19.
While Iowa’s 2026 recruiting class only has nine commits so far, Iowa just earned its first from a defensive lineman in three-star Sawyer Jezierski from Minnesota.
As the 2025 college football season approaches, Rulo will be a name to watch for Hawkeye fans as he continues his recruitment process.
