Blue Mountain’s Guers gets offer from Syracuse, interest from others – Pottsville Republican Herald

Going into the offseason, Blue Mountain junior wide receiver Chase Guers’ goal was to pick up a Division 1 offer.

On May 20, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound speedster achieved that goal when he got an offer from Syracuse. The Orange are coached by Fran Brown, who guided his squad to a 10-3 record last season that included a DirecTV Holiday Bowl win.

“It felt great honestly,” said Guers on the offer. “I have no words for it. I am beyond excited.”

This will be a big year for Guers as he looks to make a big jump heading into his junior season, and has been training hard in the offseason.

“Definitely with my hand-eye coordination and my feet work,” said Guers of his focus areas. “I have been making sure to learn the playbook and being on the same page with my quarterback – making sure I know the left and right of everything.”

Guers attended numerous camps including Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Those experiences have helped Guers and have given him many other perspectives.

“Just competing and getting yourself better and learning from the best coaches in the country,” Guers said of the benefits.

In the camp at Syracuse last week, Guers took home offensive MVP honors battling against some of the best players in the nation.

Guers stated he felt great going into the camp. He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, which caught the coaches attention. Guers knew he was going to have a big day.

“Offensive reps felt good and I was on page with my quarterback,” said Guers. “I went 3-for-3 on one-on-one. The coaches said I won MVP, and I was thrilled.”

Guers has been in consistent communication with Syracuse after the offer. Earlier in the week he had a phone call with the Orange’s wide receivers coach Myles White. They talked about Syracuse and also football in…
