Ahead of the 2025 Vermilion & White game on Saturday, UL football’s quarterback Lunch Winfield talks about how the spring has been for him.

The summer time for Louisiana football isn’t just about preparing for this upcoming fall, it’s also time for recruitment and securing future Ragin’ Cajuns.

This past month, head coach Michael Desormeaux and his staff have been busy on the trail curating the class of 2026 commits. Two of their recent commits hail minutes away in Lafayette Christian Academy’s Luke Green and Braylon Walker. Days apart, the Knights duo decided they would stay home to start their collegiate careers.

“It feels like a family,” Green said of the reason behind his commitment. “It was more about them building us together as men on and off the field. The relationships that the coaches and the players have is something that I haven’t seen, and that’s really what drew me to it.”

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, the safety and outside linebacker was a key leader for the Knights’ defense during his junior campaign. He racked up 88 total tackles and was a hound in the secondary, allowing no touchdowns. Green held offers from Liberty, Army, Navy, Central Arkansas, Arkansas State, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana and Stephen F. Austin State.

Green locked in his commitment on the second day of his official visit to Lafayette. But before his visit, he and Walker discussed their impending decisions not even knowing their fates would be the same.

“It was more of a coincidence,” Green said. “Like, even before we went on an official visit, and me and him both planned to before the season pick where we were gonna go — whether it was with each other or not. It was more of what’s the best fit for each one of us. But that was the best…
