Powell football defensive lineman Iverson Garcia committed to South Florida on June 18.
“First and foremost, I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for God and my family beside me and my coaches,” Garcia said on his announcement video. “I started my freshman year and it was a rocky road, but we’re getting there. I’m starting the race and I’m going to finish it. For the next three to four years, I will be continuing my educational and athletic career at the University of South Florida.”
USF coach Alex Golesh spent the 2021-22 season as the Tennessee offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.
The 6-foot-2 303-pound Garcia is a three-star recruit, the No. 50 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 149 defensive lineman for the 2026 class for the 247Sports Composite rankings.
He held offers from South Florida, Tennessee, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Memphis, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee State and West Georgia.
Garcia visited South Florida on June 6 and Tennessee on June 13.
He received his offer from the Bulls in February and visited with them twice, taking his unofficial visit in April and his official visit in June.
Despite visiting Tennessee on an unofficial and official visit, Garcia didn’t receive an offer until his most recent visit on June 13.
South Florida has 27 commitments for the class of 2026, with Garcia being the first from Tennessee.
