Auburn football misses out on 2026 in-state DL Vodney Cleveland

Auburn misses out on a top-five in-state talent after he elects to go out-of-state.

Auburn dominated the in-state recruiting scene last cycle. However, they continue to struggle to repeat the same success in 2026.

Vodney Cleveland, a four-star defensive lineman from Parker High School in Birmingham and the No. 4 recruit from the state of Alabama for the 2026 cycle, committed to Texas over Auburn on Saturday, becoming the fourth top-10 player from Alabama to announce his commitment. He joins Zyan Gibson (Alabama), Hezekiah Harris (Auburn), and Marquez Daniel (Florida) in announcing his commitment to an SEC program.

After missing out on Cleveland, where does Auburn turn? According to 247Sports, Auburn is in the mix for No. 1 wide receiver Cederian Morgan, No. 2 EDGE rusher Anthony Jones, and No. 3 quarterback Landon Duckworth in terms of top-10 talent from Alabama, while other targets such as No. 6 EDGE Jaquez Wilkes and No. 7 RB Ezavier Crowell remain high on the Tigers’ radar.

Auburn has three defensive commitments to its 2026 haul so far. Hezekiah Harris is Auburn’s top pledge, ranking No. 8 among Alabama recruits and No. 12 among EDGE rushers in the nation. Shadarius Toodle, another top-15 Alabama prospect, is the No. 18 linebacker from the 2026 class. Auburn will continue to improve its position within the 2026 recruiting rankings, where they currently rank No. 57 in 247Sports 2026 rankings.
