Rutgers Football Places Five on Phil Steele Preseason All-Big Ten List

Five Scarlet Knights were named as Phil Steele Preseason All-Big Ten selections in the 2025 edition of Phil Steele’s College Football Preview magazine, which comprehensively previews every FBS team in the country each year. The nominees for Rutgers include linebacker Dariel Djabome, who is listed on the predicted All-Big Ten Second Team, as well as offensive lineman Kwabena Asamoah, running back CJ Campbell Jr, wide receiver DT Sheffield, and defensive lineman Eric O’Neill, all of whom are projected members of the All-Big Ten Fourth Team. Campbell Jr, Sheffield, and O’Neill have all transferred into the program, while Djabome and Asamoah are returning members of the Rutgers football team.

Dariel Djabome received the highest honors of any Scarlet Knight with his predicted spot on the second team. He had a breakout season in 2024, averaging 8.1 tackles per game, which ranked fifth in the Big Ten. He was the first Rutgers football player to reach over 100 stops since Olakunle Fatukasi in 2020, totaling 105 tackles for the Scarlet Knights. He led the team in tackles in seven out of 13 games, including 14 tackles against Howard and Minnesota, as well as pacing Rutgers with 7.5 tackles-for-loss.

Djabome posted several sacks and forced fumbles against Power Four competition and was a finalist for the Cornish Trophy, which is given to the top Canadian in college football. With Djabome and Moses Walker expected to take over the starting linebacker spots, expect Djabome to have an even bigger impact this season and push for a top spot on the All-Big Ten conference teams.
