A Michigan State cornerback target in the 2026 class reopened his recruitment on Monday morning.
Jaxson Gates of Le Verne, Calif. announced on Monday that he is decommitting from Syracuse and will reopen his recruitment. Gates had been committed to Syracuse since last November, but had been taking official visits during the summer and exploring other options.
Gates is a three-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 88 on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 48 cornerback and No. 50 player from California in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2026 class.
Gates took an official visit to Michigan State a few weeks ago, and has also visited Utah and BYU in June. His most recent official visit was with the BYU Cougars this past weekend, so that could be telling on where his mind is at in the recruiting process and where he may be committing to next. But, regardless, this is good news for Michigan State should they still be pursuing Gates’ commitment.
