Waynesboro named Nathan Bain as its new head football coach at a called school board meeting June 23.
Bain will be the fourth head coach of the program in the last eight years. He will take over a program that has lost 23 games in a row and 30 of its last 31 games stretching back to the final game of the 2021 season.
Bain, a 2003 graduate of Stuarts Draft High School, had recently been named the head coach of the new Stuarts Draft middle school football team.
Bain has also served as the junior varsity head football coach and offensive coordinator at Waynesboro High School.
“In addition to his coaching experience, Coach Bain brings a unique perspective shaped by two decades of professional experience in the manufacturing and industrial sectors,” the release said. “Known for his reliability, work ethic, and leadership, he has managed operations and served as a key point of contact in production environments. These skills translate directly into managing a high school football program.
Waynesboro Public Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Cassell expressed enthusiasm for Bain’s appointment.
“Coach Bain represents the best of our community and he’s committed to the success of our student-athletes both on and off the field,” Cassell said. “His leadership style is grounded in mentorship, resilience, and long-term relationship-building.”
Bain said that his coaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that it is not merely about football, but who we become through it.
“I strive to instill in my players not just the skills of the game, but the virtues of integrity, perseverance, and teamwork,” he wrote in his application. “These values shine brightly both on and off the field.”
