Pac-12 announces primary media rights deal with CBS for football, men’…

“The new Pac-12 is innovative and entrepreneurial, and this partnership marks a powerful new chapter,” WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell said in a statement. “We’re leading the conference into a future defined by national visibility, competitive excellence and innovation. This is more than a media deal; it’s a statement of purpose and a springboard to what’s next.”

The deal is an extension and an expansion of the Pac-12’s 2025 agreement with CBS, which will broadcast several games, including the Apple Cup between WSU and Washington on Sept. 20 and WSU at Oregon State on Nov. 1.

CBS is also a broadcast partner of the Mountain West. That deal expires after this upcoming school year, but the network will retain the broadcast rights to some of the MWC’s most popular brands through this Pac-12 arrangement.

The Pac-12 is marketing itself as a competitive “Power” league, noting in a new release that “five of its seven football programs ranked among the College Football Playoff’s (CFP) Top 25.” And “seven of its eight men’s basketball programs (have made) the men’s NCAA Tournament since 2021, including two appearances in the national championship.”

WSU football spent several weeks in the College Football Playoff rankings and the Cougar men’s basketball team appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2024.

“CBS Sports and Paramount+ will bring the stories of our student-athletes to millions of homes across the country,” WSU athletic director Anne McCoy said in a statement. “Showcasing not just great football and basketball, but the spirit and resilience that define the new Pac-12.”

The next steps of conference realignment come in the same month as the federal ruling in the House vs. NCAA settlement, in which college athletic departments can now directly pay their athletes.
