Clemson running back target Jae Lamar commits to Georgia

Clemson football came up short in the race for one of its top offensive targets.

Four-star running back Jae Lamar announced his commitment to Georgia on Wednesday, choosing the Bulldogs over a final group that also included Clemson, Miami, Florida State, and Auburn. Lamar had been a top priority for the Tigers ever since he picked up an offer during an unofficial visit in March. He later became the only running back to attend Clemson’s major official visit weekend in early June.

The Colquitt County (Ga.) standout is ranked No. 107 overall in the 247Sports Composite and sits at No. 8 among running backs in the 2025 class. As a junior, he rushed for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 112 carries, averaging nearly eight yards per attempt.

Losing Lamar is undoubtedly a miss for Clemson, especially considering how much attention the staff invested in his recruitment. He was seen as a key piece of the Tigers’ 2025 offensive class, and now they’ll need to re-evaluate their options at the position.

That said, Clemson might already be in a position to feel confident about the future of its backfield.
