Colorado football adds Maurice Williams Jr. after a visit to Boulder

As the dust settles on the 2025 recruiting class, Colorado coaches are playing catch-up to secure the next chapter of the Buffaloes.

Just one day after securing a commitment from four-star defensive back Preston Ashley, who became the Buffaloes’ highest-ranked recruit in the 2026 class, Colorado added a future partner in crime for Ashley. Out of Louisiana, Maurice Williams Jr flipped his commitment from Liberty to Colorado today, according to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.

The three-star Williams was on his first visit to Boulder last weekend and flipped his commitment upon returning home. He has received offers from multiple other Power 4 schools, including Washington, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and fellow Big 12 school UCF.

Williams is a tad undersized heading into his final high school season, with Rivals listing him at 5-foot-11 and only 165 pounds. Where he flashes is on tape, displaying dynamic ability to stay with wideouts and only use his hands when necessary.

Despite his size, Williams isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and make strong, committed tackles in the run game. He does struggle at times with the release point of wideouts, and if not for his elite speed, he would get beaten deep far more often.

Williams becomes only the fourth recruit in Colorado’s 2026 class so far, which ranks as the current No. 89 class in the nation and worst in the Big 12, according to Rivals. It’s clear Deion Sanders and his staff have some work to do to round out the next chapter of Colorado football.
