The focus for Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff this summer remains building the 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked fourth nationally with 21 commits, including the recent additions of four-star offensive tackles Avery Morcho and Zaden Krempin. However, Elko has also placed focus on several elite prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.
On Saturday, June 13, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, defensive back coach Jordan Peterson and several other staff members hosted Dobson and his family for an unofficial visit, which is a crucial first step to gaining a comfort level with the standout South Carolina native who is being heavily pursued by every top program in the country.
On Friday, during the open media portion of this weekend’s UA (Under Armour) Next Future 50 event, Dobson, one of the 50 2027 attendees, spoke to Under Armour All-American Bowl Director Billy Tucker, who briefly discussed his Texas A&M visit and fondness for Mike Elko and the defensive staff:
“I was out there two weeks ago, and, just like everything, coach (Mike) Elko is a DB (defensive back) coach, so that means alot to me right there, and just seeing the stadium (Kyle Field) and just seeing the way they go about things.”
For many cornerback and safety prospects in the 2026 class, including five-star commit Brandon Arrington, Mike Elko’s background as a defensive coordinator and defensive back coach, developing several current high level NFL starters/contributors is quite the selling point for Dobson, who will now heavily consider the Aggies heading into next spring/summer.
