EA Sports releases its top 25 overall team ratings for College Football 26, and the Big 12 made a few appearances, but there were some surprising omissions.
Texas Tech, unsurprisingly considering their top-ranked transfer portal class, leads the charge for the conference, coming at No. 13 overall with an 86 rating. Arizona State, ranked 14th with an 85 rating, was the only other Big 12 team to make the top 25. EA Sports’ decision to leave out Kansas State, which ESPN’s FPI projects to have the best record in the conference, seems like a major slight to the Wildcats.
Colorado was left out of EA’s initial top 25, which was to be expected after the Buffaloes had several key departures, most notably Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, who were two of the highest-rated players in the entire game last year. The Buffs will have to earn a higher rating throughout the season by performing on the field.
Meanwhile, Texas, a recent departure from the Big 12, comes in as the game’s No. 2 overall team with an 88 rating tied with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions and four other teams. The top overall team is the Alabama Crimson Tide with a rating of 89.
Other teams to make the top 25 include the Duke Blue Devils (84), the Illinois Fighting Illini (82) and the South Carolina Gamecocks (82).
The Buffs won’t care too much about being absent from College Football 26’s top 25 overall teams, but some strong play throughout the first weeks of the season could see the Colorado vault into consideration.
Deion Sanders and his Buffaloes open the 2025 season with a Friday evening home date Aug. 29 against a spunky Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets team.
