A blue-chip Georgia high school football player is heading to Tuscaloosa.
Xavier Griffin, a five-star linebacker out of Gainesville, Georgia, committed to Alabama football, choosing the Crimson Tide over Ohio State, Texas and Florida State.
Griffin was originally a USC commit who re-opened his recruitment in May.
The No. 14 commit in Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class, Griffin is ranked as the No. 27 player and the No. 2 linebacker in the country per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Griffin is the second linebacker to choose Alabama in the 2026 recruiting class. The Crimson Tide also added three-star Tuscaloosa linebacker Zay Hall.
Griffin is set to play his senior season at Gainesville High School along with fellow Alabama 2026 commit Jamarion Matthews, an Alabama native who transferred for his senior season. Griffin is one of four Georgia players committed to the Crimson Tide in the 2026 recruiting class along with Matthews, five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds and four-star offensive lineman Chris Booker.
Alabama also added three Georgia high school players in 2025: tight end Marshall Pritchett and linebackers Luke Metz and Duke Johnson.
What Xavier Griffin commitment means for Alabama football
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker, Griffin is nearly a carbon copy of Jihaad Campbell, who was a 6-foot-3, 215-pound five-star defensive end out of IMG Academy.
At Gainesville High School, most of Griffin’s production was as a pass rusher, recording 15 sacks and 33 tackles-for-loss in his past two seasons, per MaxPreps. But he has a body type that could also be molded into a Crimson Tide wolf outside linebacker in the same vein as…
