5-star Oregon Ducks commit Jett Washington likened to Ken Griffey Jr.

The Oregon Ducks scored a major recruiting win in June, landing 5-star safety Jett Washington, the No. 18 player in the 2026 class. Washington is the highest-ranked safety the Ducks have ever had committed, and he is certainly living up to the hype so far this summer, with an impressive showing this past weekend at the OT7 camp.

With a long list of the top-ranked players in the nation getting together for the elite 7-on-7 camp, Washington is standing out, being named the “Alpha Dog” for 247Sports on Saturday. With multiple interceptions, Washington is drawing comparisons to Ken Griffey Jr. in his prime, mainly for his ability to patrol the secondary — or centerfield, in Griffey’s case — and make tough plays look easy.

“The way he breaks on the ball, the way he takes away his entire side of the field, we were talking over the on the sideline, it’s kind of like watching Ken Griffey (Jr.) in his prime, patrolling the center field,” 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman said. “That’s what Jett Washington looks like in that back-half. … Jett looks like a million bucks out there, but he plays like it too.”

The commitment from Washington is huge for Dan Lanning and his team, who now have back-to-back years of bringing in a 5-star safety, with Trey McNutt coming as a member of the 2025 class. While we are still months away from signing day, it appears that Washington is locked in with the Ducks, and it will be fun to watch how he performs and rises over the next several months before putting pen to paper with Oregon in December.
