After upsetting Ohio State the week before, Penn State traveled to Purdue on October 29, 2016. The Nittany Lions were ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2011.
The game was tied at halftime, but Penn State turned on the jets in the second half to pull away from Purdue in a 62-24 win. Saquon Barkley rushed for 207 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Trace McSorley threw for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Penn State had 511 total yards of offense and averaged over 8 yards per play:
Penn State’s offense continued to gain momentum through the second half of the season en route to the program’s first Big Ten championship in eight years. The win snapped a seven-game road losing streak for Penn State, and the 62 points scored were (at the time) the most by any visiting team at Ross-Ade Stadium.
