Rutgers football has announced its three representatives to send to the annual Big Ten Football Media Days, which will take place from July 22nd to July 24th. Previously held in Indianapolis, the Big Ten has moved its media showcase to Las Vegas, a year after the conference added Washington, Oregon, USC, and UCLA. Along with head coach Greg Schiano, the Scarlet Knights are sending quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, wide receiver Ian Strong, and linebacker Dariel Djabome to the event.
Athan Kaliakmanis is returning for his second season with Rutgers after being the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He led the Scarlet Knights to a 7-5 regular season record, throwing for nearly 2,700 yards and 18 touchdowns. His ability to throw the deep ball and complete timely passes helped keep the chains moving for Rutgers, and the Rutgers passing game featured prominently alongside the vaunted rushing attack led by current Bears running back Kyle Monangai.
Ian Strong was a big part of the receiving core last year and will be one of the top receivers on the team this season. Strong finished second in receiving yards with 676 yards behind Dymere Miller, and led the team with five receiving touchdowns. The Scarlet Knights will have a terrific trio at the position, with Strong and his high school teammate KJ Duff being joined by transfer receiver DT Sheffield. With Kaliakmanis opening up the field for his receivers, Strong will look to continue to improve the Scarlet Knights’ passing game with his impressive catch radius and big-play ability.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dariel Djabome was Rutgers’ biggest standout last season, amassing a team-high 105 tackles, along with 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles after being inserted into the starting lineup last season. He is expected to have an even bigger season…
