Crest football standouts D’Various Surratt, DaVaughn Norris discuss the Chargers’ win over rival Shelby.
A pair of Crest defensive stalwarts have made their college plans known.
Crest safety Lyrik Pettis has committed to Duke football, while his teammate in the defensive backfield, D’Various “Pluto” Surratt, will attend NC State. Both players announced their commitments July 1 via social media.
Pettis is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports; the 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety is North Carolina’s 30th-ranked player in the class of 2026 and 63rd among those nationally at the position. He chose Duke from a pool of teams that included Appalachian State, Central Arkansas, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, James Madison, Liberty, Miami (Ohio), NC State, Norfolk State, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Rice, The Citadel, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
Surratt is also a three-star prospect according to 247Sports. The 6-foot, 185-pound safety ranked the No. 26 player in North Carolina and among the nation’s top 60 players at his position in the class of 2026. In addition to the Wolfpack, Surratt also holds offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Duke, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Liberty, Missouri, Norfolk State, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Sam Houston, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
