4-star UGA football commit sends message to Texas

Four-star Georgia Bulldogs cornerback commitment Chace Calicut sent a bold, confident message to his state and possibly to the Texas Longhorns.

“The best in Texas leaves Texas,” said Calicut via social media. “Remember that!”

Calicut is a physically imposing defensive back recruit. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Georgia commit is ranked as the No. 23 recruit in Texas, but he thinks he’s the best. That’s the sort of mindset that coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs love. However, Georgia players typically don’t stir up controversy in the media.

Calicut is confident and will have a chance to prove that he’s the best player in Texas during the upcoming high school football season with North Shore (Houston, Texas). The class of 2026 safety helped North Shore advance to the 6A D-I semifinals last year and will look to take home a state championship this fall.

Calicut’s bold proclamation is possibly the latest page in Georgia and Texas’ budding rivalry. Calicut committed to Georgia over Texas and Michigan.

The Bulldogs and Longhorns met twice in 2024 including in the SEC championship. Georgia won both meetings and hosts Texas on Nov. 15 in a game that could decide who advances to the SEC title game. Of course, Calicut won’t be playing in that one.
