OLNEY – The start of two-a-day football practices are about a month away, but the Olney Cubs are now wondering who will lead them in those sessions.
Chris Tobola resigned as the school’s head football coach and athletic director Thursday morning, creating an untimely opening for the program.
“I know it’s late in the process, but this has been a couple weeks in the making,” Tobola said. “I have had some other opportunities come up, and I decided it was best for my family to make a move.”
Tobola is leaving after a single season leading the Cubs, finishing with a 2-8 record in 2024. His exit comes a little more than a year after he was named the Cubs’ new head coach in June 2024.
“There’s really no timetable when plans change in life,” said Tobola, who has 25 years coaching experience. “I appreciated my time here in Olney and all the people I’ve met. Ultimately, family comes first, and I’m making this decision for my family.”
Tobola doesn’t have his next stop locked in stone, but he’s remaining in the coaching profession, wherever that might lead him next. He says he has multiple options and hopes one comes to fruition in the coming weeks.
Olney posted the athletic director position on the Region IX job board Thursday afternoon, beginning what must be a quick process to find the next leader of their football program.
