LSU football loses blue-chip linebacker recruit to SEC rival

LSU football made a recruiting splash on Wednesday, adding five-star defensive end Trenton Henderson to its 2026 class. But it wasn’t all good news for the Tigers. LSU missed on four-star linebacker JJ Bush, who picked SEC rival Arkansas over LSU. Brian Kelly’s staff was considered the favorite to land Bush, so the move was a surprise.

Per 247 Sports, Bush is the No. 16 linebacker and No. 15 prospect out of Alabama. On3 isn’t quite as high on the defender, slotting Bush No. 31 at his position.

Had Bush committed, he would have filled a need in LSU’s 2026 class. Now, defensive coordinator Blake Baker and the Tigers remain without a linebacker.

Here’s what 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Irvins had to say about Bush as a player:

“Run-and-hit linebacker with an exceptional athletic profile. Began prep career playing safety before moving into the box. Displays outstanding range for a second-level defender as he’s quick to change his heading and will find ways to go through or around obstacles.”

After a newsy day on the recruiting trail, LSU’s 2026 class ranks No. 5 nationally, according to Rivals.
