Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore sees four ex-champs earn distinct EA honors

In the wake of a national championship victory two seasons ago, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson was ranked the best overall player when the “EA Sports College Football 25” video game debuted last year.

As fans anticipate the impending drop of “EA Sports College Football 26,”  the developer released their top 100 player ratings Wednesday, just over a week before the game comes out July 10.

Johnson was one of five Wolverines in last year’s top 100; however, all five are now in the NFL. This year, four from head coach Sherrone Moore’s squad will be featured.

Tied for second-highest-rated full safety in the game with TCU’s Bud Clark, fifth-year senior Rod Moore scored the best out of Ann Arbor with a 92 overall rating.

Moore’s 92 is an improvement from 89 in College Football 25 — just shy of the top 100 — and he rated at least 90 in all general categories but injury (79) and strength (62). It’s an impressive feat, considering he was sidelined last season with an ACL injury.

Clark and Moore were outranked by Ohio State’s Caleb Downs at 96 overall. Rounding out free safeties in the top 100 are Jalen Catalon (Mizzou), Jeremiah Cooper (Iowa State), KJ Bolden (Georgia), Koi Perich (Minnesota) and Michael Taaffe (Texas), all with a 91 overall rating.

Benny, like Rod Moore, is another fifth-year senior and improved from his previous rating, 82. Through four seasons as a Wolverine, Beeny had 33 individual tackles
