Will Texas Tech beat out Texas for 5-star recruit?

July 4 is a national holiday.

But it has also become a huge day for college football commitments.

Arguably the biggest name set to come off the board is Lake Ridge (Texas) five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, who will announce his commitment at 1 p.m. CT and is down to a final four of Florida, Michigan, Ohio State and Texas.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound recruit is rated the nation’s No. 5 overall prospect, No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 2 player in Texas.

For some time, the Longhorns have been viewed as the team-to-beat for Ojo.

Texas Tech has landed just one five-star commitment in program history – class of 2024 wide receiver Micah Hudson (No. 25 overall).

Ojo would not only be the highest-rated pledge in program history, he would claim the top spot by a massive margin (No. 5 compared to No. 25).

Predicting big-time commitments in the NIL era is often a moving target in the final days and hours, and it appears college football fans could be in for a wild ride with Ojo.

Can Texas Tech pull off the surprise commitment, or can Texas – or another finalist – gain the lead in the final hours?

Owns a lean, athletic look and plays with impressive functional athleticism and movement ability.”

“Live evaluation during 2025 Navy Army All-American Bowl revealed a consistent mean streak in pads. Stood out physically, athletically, and in field demeanor despite being among…
