Deion Sanders has to decide if coaching Colorado is about passion or launching Shedeur’s NFL career

Deion Sanders is entering uncharted territory this season with the Colorado Buffaloes. It will be his first season as head coach without his sons playing for him, leaving a question mark at the quarterback position.

“For the first time under Deion Sanders, Colorado is going to be a normal football team. The Buffaloes’ defense will be the star of the show after adding Jaheim Oatis from Alabama, and defensive coordinator Robert Livingstone elevated the unit tremendously. Quarterbacks Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis ensure that the position remains in good hands, especially with receiver Drelon Miller still on campus,” CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah wrote.

Sanders has faced some health issues, causing him to miss part of his contract obligations. He has been away from the team for some time but is expected to rejoin his players very soon.

“Deion’s doing good,” Adam “Pacman” Jones said in an interview with BetOnline posted this week. “I think he got another week at home before they get started. He’ll be there. He’ll be ready to go.”

With this being Sanders’ first season without a son at quarterback, Quincy Avery is questioning his commitment to being the head coach of Colorado — or anywhere — in general.

“It’s going to get really difficult and Deion Sanders is going to have to make a real decision,” Avery said. “Was he doing this the whole time to prop his son up and help him become this top-tier quarterback, which he did, or does he want to do this because he really cares about the kids? He’s never coached a team in which his son did not play for. This is brand new to him; so we get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved.”
