Barry Odom and his Purdue football staff landed a commitment from the best recruit of their first full cycle Saturday.

Jamarcus Whyce bolstered the Boilermakers’ class and gives them an anchor to build around on the defensive line in the future after pledging to join Purdue. He is the highest-rated recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, which now features 19 commits, and ranks No. 48th nationally and 16th in the Big Ten per On3’s industry rankings.

Whyce is listed at 6 foot 1.5, 300 pounds and is from Trotwood-Madison just west of Dayton, Ohio. He was rated three stars, No. 468 nationally, No. 52 among defensive lineman and No. 22 in Ohio by On3’s industry rankings.

He’s the second top-500 recruit after unseating quarterback Corin Berry as the top recruit of the class, who was once committed to QB guru Bill O’Brien and Boston College.
